Don't Buy A Digital Point-and-Shoot Without Checking Out These 6 Features

By DeeDee Dobson

You're ready to go out (or online) and buy a brand new compact camera, but how do you know which features to look for? To some extent, it depends on your preferences of course, but make sure you look at all the specs closely to get the camera that best suits your needs.

Here are six features you should take a closer look at before clicking "add to cart":

Battery The type of battery is an important feature. Some cameras accept several power sources (proprietary rechargeable, AA, AC adapter, USB hookup), and this really is the best option. Relying solely on a camera-specific rechargeable battery is risky - even if you have backup batteries, there might be times when you are unable to charge them (traveling in remote areas without electricity, or even just in a country where the plugs are different). AA batteries on the other hand are everywhere, relatively inexpensive and easy to carry along. But they don't last very long, and the cost does add up. Having said that, they are ideal as a back up power source.

Optical Zoom The optical zoom is what you want to focus on when it comes to zooming features. Digital zoom does not bring the lens closer to the object, it just enlarges and crops the photo to fill the frame with a "zoomed in" picture. It gets the job done, but you lose quite a bit of image quality this way. Optical zoom on the other hand works like the zoom on traditional 35mm cameras, where the zooming is done in the lens and there is no loss of image quality at all.

Memory Even though all cameras these days accept a variety of memory cards, built-in memory is always an added asset. Imagine standing in front of the perfect shot with full or malfunctioning memory cards: internal memory to the rescue. Many of the compact cameras currently on the market have anywhere from a few MB to several GB of internal memory, so make sure you look for that in the specs when deciding on a new camera.

Megapixels These days, most cameras have enough megapixels for the majority of users. Even if you are making 16x20 prints, a good quality point and shoot will give you nice, crisp results. However, if you are planning to sell your photos as stock, check with the agencies - some have a minimum mp requirement (for stock, you probably also want a camera that can capture RAW files, which can be converted to tiffs, jpgs and more - see below).

Manual Exposure Control Even though most cameras will give you great results using the Auto or Program settings, having the option of controlling the exposure yourself is not only fun, it's crucial to achieving certain types of shots. A slow shutter speed will produce dreamlike shots of moving water, or those color streaks from car lights at night. A fast shutter will freeze action, like your kids or dog in mid-play. A wide aperture gives you a shallow depth of field, perfect for close-ups of flowers and other objects, or portraits where you want the subject sharp and the background out of focus. A small aperture gives you great depth of field for landscapes, or large groups of people, for example.

File Type Jpgs are everywhere. They are what you need to put your photos on your blog, flickr, Shutterfly, SmugMug, dotphoto, etc. The files are small, easy to upload, they load fast online, and you can get great prints from them. Which is why ipg is the file format that all compact cameras produce. There are, however, a few drawbacks to jpgs: it's a lossy format, meaning that every time you make changes to your photo and re-save it, you lose quality. Also, the jpgs coming out of your camera have also undergone some form of sharpening and other adjustments, which you have no control over.

In the past few years, a few point and shoot cameras capable of capturing photos in RAW format have appeared on the market. RAW files are really just raw data, and these files need to go through some degree of post-shooting processing to "become" photos as we know them, but you have full control over the final result, you can save them as any format (jpg, tiff, dng, etc.), and you can play around with the images as much as you want without losing any picture quality. All manufacturers make their own proprietary conversion software, which comes with the camera, but you can also use Photoshop or Lightroom. I find Lightroom a little bit more user-friendy, and it's a lot cheaper than Photoshop. - 20760

Psp Music Sites

By Ellison Gelfond

In the past you had to go to a store if you wanted to rent or buy a movie. You can now save a trip to the video store and download movies right off the internet. Below, is a sample of some of the movies you can find using movie download sites.

Along Came A Spider: The daughter of a senator has been kidnapped, from right under the noses of the secret service. The kidnapper only wants to deal with criminal psychologist Alex Cross. From here there is deceit and manipulation, as the kidnapper tries to fulfill his plans.

Stagecoach: One of the awesome American films, and a landmark in the aging of the Western, balancing personality research as distinct passengers voyage together on the identical stagecoach and peerless action in a long Indian assault, characterizing Yakima Canutt's renowned-stunt work. Additionally, this is the film that launched John Wayne to authentic stardom. Mitchell won an Oscar as the intoxicated physician, as did the music score. Script by Dudley Nichos, from Ernest Haycox's tale "Level to Lordsburg" whose structure is comparable to Man de Maupassant's Boule de Suif. Cast includes Claire Trevor, John Wayne, Andy Devine, John Carradine, Thomas Mitchell, Tim Holt, Tom Tyer, and Jack Pennick. (96 minutes, 1939)

The Night of The Locust: Phenomenal adaptation of Nathanael West's cleaning novel in reference to Hollywood's netherworld in 1930s, seen mainly through eyes of a youthful actor Atherton who finds little glamour and a lot of busted-down individuals in Tinsel-town. Cast includes Donald Sutherland, Karen Black, Burgess Meredith, and William Atherton. (144 minutes, 1975)

Iron Monkey: In gothic China, a gently village physician masquerades as Iron Baboon, a Robin Hood type who quarrels a corrupt governor and helps the downtrodden. Many years before Slumping Tiger, Concealed Dragon and prompted by its action choreographer, this expects some of its high-flying action methods although has no pretensions. It is just a quick, amusing action yam with the overstated performing fashion of Hong Kong escapist fare. Cast includes Yu Rong Guang, Donnie Yen, Jean Wang, Tsang Sze, Yuen Rebuff Yi, James Wong, and Yen Yee Kwan. (87 minutes, 1993)

Marjorie Morningstar: Wood is only satisfactory as Herman Wouk's heroine in this story of a N.Y.C. gal striving to greatness although ending up a suburban housewife, with Kelly being her summer romance. Cast includes Gene Kelly, Natalie Wood, Claire Trevor, Ed Wynn, Everett Sloane, Carolyn Jones, Martin Milner, Martin Balsam, and Ruta Lee. (123 minutes, 1958)

Reno Nine-One-One: If you've heard of Comedy then Medial's inept team of cops and are interested to see if they may be the subject for your approaching Master's or Ph.D. This off-the-cuff characteristic without the cable advertisements that keep their tads aptly bite-dimensioned can serve as an intro. The Reno sheriff s branch, in Miami for a conference, is hailed upon to guard the city while the common cops are isolated among a bioterrorism assault. Slapdash film by no means noticed a fat wisecrack or masturbation antic it didn't like, albeit cameos by Paul Rudd and particularly Dwayne The Stone Johnson are funnier than most of the sleep. Cast includes Carlos Alazraqui, Mary Birdsong, Robert Ben Garant, Kerri Kenney-Silver, Niecy Nash, and Cedric Yarbrough. (84 minutes, 2007)

MGM's The Big Parade of Comedy: Fifty of the best megastars of all time appear in this collection, however too concisely. Cast includes Laurel and Hardy, Keaton, Gable, Robert BencWey, Jean Harlow, and Malion Davies, (90 minutes, 1964)

Live a Little Steal a Lot: Unremarkable however preoccupying story based on genuine-life tale of Two Florida shore bums who machinated "in-executable" heist of 564-carat Megastar of India fine like caper scenes, plus excellent speedboat pursue. Cast includes Robert Conrad, Don Stroud, Donna Factories, Robyn Millan, Luther Adler, Burt Youthful, and Paul Stewart. (101 minutes, 1975)

Shaft: This is a remake of the 1971 film. Trying to clean up the streets in New York City is no easy task. In trying to do so black detective John Shaft (Samuel L. Jackson) is piling up enemies right and left. With only Carmen and Rasaan on his side he battles, drug lords, murderers, and corrupt cops, all out to get him.

The right front wheel rover fault may be completely out of order

By Haven Frbiz

NASA a few days ago, said, "Opportunity" Mars probe failure of the right front, the question may finally have the complete failure of the right front to limit the "opportunities" for its scope of activity.

"Opportunity" is now the distance to stop a road crater, NASA's exploration mission group would like to see "opportunities" for its short-term through the rest, the right front to help solve the fault. It is learned that the "opportunities" for its right front wheel of the gearbox has been out of action, to its fall into the current predicament. The end of last year, "opportunities" in struggling to climb out from the Victoria crater, after he encountered such a problem. At that time, the "opportunities" for its left front wheel problem similar to their choice to leave the Victoria crater. NASA had worried that if the left front wheel completely out of order, "Opportunity" will never get trapped in the pit.

However, in last year's failure, the right front wheel did not malfunction. "Opportunity" mission team also successfully repaired gear failure - by the motor and transmission components for the rotating wheel. First, they allow the "Opportunity" for a few days rest, and then make it back, it seems that the redeployment of the operation of the gearbox lubricant. Hope to detect a similar task force to operate the "opportunity" to restore its vitality, but this failure may be "opportunities" for its first functional signs of decline.

Since 5 years ago since the landing of the Red Planet, "Opportunity" has 15 kilometers of road. "Opportunities" for its exploration project person in charge, the U.S. space agency's Jet Propulsion Laboratory约翰卡拉斯(John Callas) said: "As the transmission device may well be more bad things, so, even if the adoption of these measures may also beyond repair 'opportunity' No. fault. 'opportunity' No. There is always the risk of functional decline is inevitable. "

However, even if the right front wheel finally stopped running, "Opportunity" can still continue to explore Mars. "Opportunities" for its twin probe "Spirit" in the right front wheel failure in 2006, but ground-based mission control center operators through "Spirit" back-driven, so that it continues to roam the red planet. Callas said, "Opportunity" and "courage" is not accessible when the back drive very far goal.

It is learned that the "opportunities" for its forward drive, you can shoot pictures of the road in front of the complicated to the surface, ground mission control center can be the basis of these observational data to develop road route in advance. Finish the road in the route book, the "Opportunity" can see the path according to their activity until they receive a ground-based mission control center to send up-to-date route information. Once the "opportunities" for its moving backward, low-gain antenna will hinder the road in front of the line of sight. This means that the "opportunity" can not use its "Vision" activity, once the route is scheduled to finish, only to stop the road.

NASA has been in the United States March 7 to the "Opportunity" is sent back an order-driven, but did not play a role in the directive. Detection of the mission team is currently investigating the cause of the malfunction. In their view, this failure may be due to pre-set command and good driver conflict caused by the new directive, the new directive designed to allow the "opportunity" to remember its location, the next day wake up automatically according to the original route of the road. NASA engineers in the United States conduct a study on the fault at the same time, "Opportunity" is a temporary suspension in place, the study of rock above the ground.

Callas said that even though the right front wheel failure, but he is still the first to see "opportunities" for its Endeavor crater back to the edge of the photo excited. Endeavor crater is "opportunity" is important to detect the next goal. Callas said: "This feeling is as if sailors on the first sight of land. See it from more and more near us, of course, thrilled."

Endeavor crater is now away from "Opportunity" is around 12 kilometers away, but in order to avoid obstacles, "Opportunity" at least 16 kilometers of the road necessary to reach the destination, the trip is estimated to spend about two years. "Opportunity" mission team members to detect admit, parts and components are aging, "Opportunity" may never be the new goal can not arrive. - 20760

The Band's First Time

By Matthew James

So you have your first gig? After all the practicing your band has done, you finally landed the dream- a chance to play in front of a crowd. This, next to being signed, is one of the greatest experiences and thrills to happen to a knew band. You can show the world how great you are. Like Murphy's Law says "what can go wrong, will go wrong." Every musician in the world can remember the first time they performed on staged, so make it a good experience not a frightful mess.

First, rehearse, rehearse, rehearse, rehearse! No matter how many times you have performed your songs in the garage, when you get on stage it will all sound different, and, if you don't know your part 110%, you will get it wrong. In the garage, you are in one small room and quite close to your fellow band mates. On stage, you can be separated a lot and you may not be able to hear the other guys or what they are playing. If you know your songs very well, you will be able play no matter what sound problems you have.

Secondly, be confident. If you rehearse your songs well, you will do fine. If you are nervous, it will show and you will mess up and no one will wan to hire you again. This is your time to shine. You don't want a bad reputation. Rehearse the songs in order so you know how each one will sound when you play them in the place and you can keep going if there is a problem. This will let you know how you will do in real life and if any problems might happen.

If you are doing a gig with a bunch of other bands, make sure your accessories such as leads, tuners , and microphones are clearly marked with your name or at least some special markings, it is strange how much gear goes "walking" at these gigs. Keep track of your stuff and maybe even invite a few friends to watch it.

Get to the gig early enough to be in no rush and bring as many as your friends as you can. Audiences generally have a 'sheep' mentality and if they see or hear a bunch of people making a lot of favorable noises they too will go along and get the vibe. Packing the show with people you know will also be good for you- it's good to see your friends come out and support you.

Your first music gig experience will be one you always remember and one you want to go right. Be sure to follow the tips above so everything goes smoothly and nothing bad happens. Even if problems occur, remember that this your first time- you're learning and that's ok. No matter what happens you'll have a great time and be telling your kids and grandkids about the time you rocked the house down. - 20760

Why I Love Movies

By Trevor Allmanson

I love movies. I especially love being able to watch movies in my own home. Going to the movies is fun too, but theres always someone who talks at the wrong moment, or a kid who starts crying, or someone has to send a text or an email and that telltale blue glare from their phone draws your attention from the big screen. Watching movies at home eliminates those distractions. You can turn the ringer on your phone to mute, prepare your favorite snack and beverage and sit back and let yourself be transported to another time and another place.

Movies are one of my favorite forms of entertainment. Im often really busy during the week, so the idea of going out and doing something often feels like more effort than its worth. Being able to sit on my couch and be transported to another reality is a great way to relax. I love the vicarious thrill of watching an action movie. In real life I would never want to be chased after by a series of hit men intent on ending my life in the most torturous way possible. But watching James Bond face up to these enemies is a thrill I wouldnt want to pass by.

My wife is really into the sci-fi genre. So when its her turn to choose a movie well watch a Star Trek, or Star Wars (but only the originals), or The Matrix, or one of the Terminator movies, or the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. And its not just movies; she cant wait until the Battlestar Galactica series comes out on DVD. Although Sci Fi isnt my favorite, Ive lucked out that shes not a huge chick-flick fan like some of the women I know.

My most recent addiction is mafia movies. I cant seem to get enough of the Godfather and Goodfellas. I even include My Cousin Vinny in my addiction, though its not really a mafia movie, but Joe Pesci, come on. He can only be a mafia character! Weve been watching these movies so often my wife can even quote dialog at me!

For my birthday last year, we saved up and bought me a 52 flat screen television and surround sound system. Once we installed all of that, we became the house where all our friends want to watch movies. Thats our typical Friday night, someone provides a movie, we order pizza and beer and settle in to our weekend, all in the comfort of my home.

There are so many fantastic movies to choose from that well never run out of things to watch. And its not just movies. We also really enjoy watching TV series on DVD. The best part about that is not having to wait for your show to resume after hiatus. And lately it seems like the TV executives think a season is comprised of six episodes. Its really annoying. Just after youve fallen into a routine, your show either goes off the air for a few weeks or goes into reruns. Watching the entire series on DVD means having to wait until the series is over, but you get to immerse yourself in the story. We tried watching 24 in 24 hours, but couldnt -- it took us more like 72. But we didnt forget what Jack said or did in that time, and it was a much more impactful way to watch that series.

Then there are the classics. I could watch The Shawshank Redemption at least once a month, and Im not the only one. Its the top rated movie of all time according to the Internet Movie Database. Sure there are other forms of entertainment worth pursuing. Its great to get outside. But for me, nothing beats setting up the DVD player with a movie Im looking forward to watching, grabbing a snack and a beverage and my wife, and sitting on the couch, being transported to a different place and time for 2 or 3 hours. I love the movies. - 20760
