Cheap Hotels in Amsterdam: Myth or Reality?

By Jetse Holland

Show me a person who doesn't want to travel and see the world, and I bet you there's something wrong with him. Humans are like this: they want to travel, they want to see new places, and amongst all, Europe has great touristic objectives. Amsterdam is one of the cities in Europe which lives out of tourism.

Finding cheap hotels in Amsterdam should not be a problem for anybody, if you make your bookings at least one month ahead your trip.

There are several cheap hotels in the central area of Amsterdam. They are suitable for people who want to make the most out of their vacation and visit as many touristic objectives as possible. Bema hotel and Ibis hotel are only two examples of inexpensive but comfortable lodging.

If luxury hotels are not for you, maybe you can investigate the possibility of getting accommodation in a hostel. Prices in hostels are much lower. If you go out of season, you can sleep for as low as 15-20 Euro per night. Rooms are locked during the day, but there's a lot to be visited anyway in Amsterdam.

Although they are situated in very old buildings, many hotels in the central area of Amsterdam have been renovated, so they offer modern conditions. Some hotels were bought by foreign investors, who are now advertising to tourists from they native country. Such hotels are usually cheap. An example is Bema hotel.

When traveling on a shoe string budget, don't forget to search for all transportation facilities that are around the potential hotels. You want to spend as little as possible for transport, so cabs are out of the question. Be wise, and save your money for a nice dinner or two.

When visiting Amsterdam, a ride on the canals is a must. It gives you the chance to see the beauty of this old city at its highest. Of course, the Van Gogh museum and Anne Frank's house are two other famous objectives to visit. - 20760

5 Simple Steps To Restore Antique Lionel Trains

By Mira Dubus

Has your Lionel train seen better days? Wouldn't it be pleasant to see it chugging around on its track again, radiating the comparable sweetheart as the day it was found that Christmas morning so long ago?

Recreating and reconstructing your old Lionel train can be very satisfying. You can relish in the warm gleam of memories of past, and then make fresh memories to go along with them!

The pleasant thing is, you can do this yourself with just a little patience and know-how! At One Time you've repaired it, maintaining your old train's glory is by and large a issue of a tap of oil at present and so in the exact targets to keep it functioning smoothly.

How do you reconstruct Lionel Trains?

The introductory step in restoring an old Lionel train is to get it all cleaned up.

Wipe it all off with a soft cloth to dispatch junk and dirt.

You can get rid of rust with rust remover or sand paper. If you see green or covered white spots, that is oxidization, and you can get rid of it with oxidization remover.

The final part in your cleaning is to wipe down the tracks, the wheels of the cars, and any moving parts with a light oil spray. Use Q-Tips soaked with the oil to get into smaller areas, like the wheels, and use a soft cloth soaked with the oil for the tracks. Buff it all up with a clean part of the cloth.

Arrange a pat of the oil on whatever moving divisions, and function it in so that they move smoothly and easy. You can use a toothpick to catch tiny bits of oil for the small parts.

You can start to fixing it now that it's clean.

Make sure all the parts of the path blended as one tightly. If they don't, and so twist the connectors back into place with average pairs of pliers. It might take a few samples to get them just right, only you should be able to get a tight fit.

Take the bodies off of your cars, and inspect the insides. Clean them as earlier, and see for broken divisions. It's genuinely easy to substitute these sections yourself. You can purchase them at a Lionel trains speciality storage, numerous hobby storehouses, or order them from Lionel trains regions catalogues. Just unscrew them and screw in the replacement part.

Lastly, does your train move? Check it after you've cleansed it all, because built up stain and dirt could make the connection 'tween the train and the track to be so bad that it keeps it from running. If it is clean and still doesn't run, check to see if the plug is performing. If the plug sees Fine, it may be that the transformer needs repair or substitute.

You can find detailed instructions about how to set up the transformer, and each of the some other parts of Lionel trains at LionelManuals.com. Is a Bat a Nocturnal Animal

By Richard Guzman

Andrew's class has an oral report due next week. They have been studying nocturnal animals. Nocturnal animals sleep during the day and stay awake at night. His assignment is to pick a nocturnal animal and share what he learned with the class. He is the only student in the class who hasn't picked one.

Andrew's friend "The Brain" slept over last night. After everyone was asleep, they snuck out to look for nocturnal animals. Andrew was bored. To entertain himself he thought it would be fun to hang upside down on a tree branch. That wasn't such a bright idea. The branch broke and so did his arm.

Although, he was restricted from some activities and even some chores he still had to do his oral report. I know it sounds unbelievable but his report is due Monday and he still hasn't picked a nocturnal animal.

He convinced his mother to let him go over to friends' house. His friend was going to help him pick a nocturnal animal and help him research it on the computer. The funniest thing happened as soon as he got to his friends' house. His friends' Mom was still puzzled. She wanted to know why he was hanging upside down in a tree at night like a bat. Andrew finally realized what nocturnal animal his report was going to be about! A bat!

Jake and Andrew looked for websites that had information about bats. Andrew learned many interesting and fascinating facts about them. He learned that a bat was a mammal, just like we are. He also found it cool how insect eating bats move around in the dark, a process called echolocation. This means when a bat sends out a high pitched sound a sound bounces off objects around them and comes back to their ears. Also, when a bat rests he hangs upside down. I bet he doesn't break very many branches and arms. Andrew is so excited that his report is really coming together. When he got home he practiced his oral report in front of the family. He decided to take his sisters' advice and add pictures. Today the reports were due. Andrew was picked to go first and he was fantastic!Looking back, he realized that he should have gone about picking a nocturnal animal differently. All the worrying was for nothing.

In the future Andrew will relax! Andrew admits he gets overwhelmed easily. The teacher doesn't even finish her sentence and he becomes nervous. As soon as he hears the word "project" his stomach does flip flops and whatever she says after that is "blocked out". Andrew agrees this sounds pretty accurate. Perhaps, it would be in his best interest to research the topic on the computer first. Andrew agrees 100%. He said utilizing the computer should never be his last priority. He was really surprised how many websites were just a few clicks away from the topic he needed information on. For example; Google, Yahoo, and Ask.com are very helpful and simple to use to find out information. Andrew, realizes that on any of the above websites, he simply has to type a sentence or the main words of your topic. It is unbelievable how fast the results are displayed...in seconds.

Andrew, thought about it and using a computer is so much easier than sneaking out and getting injured. Andrew said he did not look at the big picture when he made his careless decision. He also believes that this experience has taught him to stop and think before making any hasty decisions in the future. Andrew, knows if he has any other questions to just ask a family member someone will be more than happy to help him with his dilemma. - 20760

There is Cuteness in Uglydolls

By Kim Daly

Before, I am really curious and clueless if "Uglydolls" by David Horvath and Sun-Min Kim really exist. I just heard of them from some friends and did not get the chance to see them. I guess it is just natural for me to think that way as it is a bit absurd to think there are people who will create and eventually sell things are that are ugly. To my surprise, I tried to do a search online and I found out that Uglydolls by David Horvath and Sun-Min Kim really exist. They do since 2002 and were actually distinguished by many because they balance traditional cuteness with ugliness. In 2006, "Uglydolls" of the two toy designers were awarded by Toy Industry of America as the Specialty Toy of the Year.

The first time I saw the "Uglydolls" by David Horvath and Sun-Min Ki online, I found them cute. Despite their unusual look, there is cuteness in them considering they are small plush toys. I also found them as toys that kids will enjoy. Parents will enjoy them too as they will get good value for their money as they are handmade and so durable.

Ever since 2002, "Uglydolls" have been purely handmade. Sun-Min Kim started everything. At first, Little Uglys, Giant Uglydolls, plush key chains, and vinyl Uglydolls were introduced in the market.

Right now, "Uglydolls" are still purely handmade but their production is now in mainland China. It is believed that it is their being purely handmade ever since which have made them distinct from other dolls. Because they have been purely handmade, each doll features little variations, adding to dolls' uniqueness. For every doll, there is small tag which tells about the doll's notable personality.

At this stage, the different types or kinds of Uglydolls include:

* Abima

* Babo

* Babo's Bird

* Big Toe

* Bop 'n' Beep

* Chuckanucka

* Cinko

* Deer Ugly

* Deluxe

* Gato

* Ice Bat

* Jeero

* Moxy

* Ox

* Peaco

* Plunko

* Puglee

* Poe Target

* Tray

* Uglydog

* Uglyghost

* Uglyworm

* Wage (original one)

* Wedgehead

These dolls are being sold at some independent and specialty toy stores. There is still an issue with regards to their availability in mainstream outlets however just recently, they were seen at some mainstream stores like Nordstrom, Urban Outfitters and other big chains. Well, the issue should be solved right away to help enhance status of "Uglydolls" in the market. - 20760

Photoshop - Batch Processing

By David Peters

For those of you who don't already know, Photoshop has these nifty little features called Actions. Now, these actions can be used for many things, including the creation of beautiful and eye catching effects, maximizing your productivity, or simply to carry out the tedious and mundane tasks that you just doesn't feel like doing.

I recently had the pleasure of a little thing called Batch Processing. I'm a dedicated designer, but there was no way I was going sit in front of my computer for hours changing the Hue/Saturation for every single image for my forum. What is Batch Processing, you say? Well, it's something that processes a batch,and I'm going to show you how to do it.

When you're creating an action you need it to do one thing: Something. In my case, I needed to change the Hue/Saturation for 75+ images from blue to my "trademark" teal. Maybe you need an action for a different purpose, but humor me and tell yourself, "Hey, I need to make my image the same color as hers!" Next, you'll need something to work on. Get a small image, like an icon, preferably the one I'm using for this tutorial.

Next go to Windows - Actions, making sure it is checked. If checked, you should see a tab in the Layers Palette appropriately labeled Actions.

Click on the arrow button to expand the Actions menu and choose "new set." This creates a folder for the action you create (you don't necessarily need the folder, it simply helps with organization.)

Go back to the Actions menu and select "New Action." I'll give you three guesses as to what this does. Now, before recording an action you need to figure out the steps you'll need to take and the order in which you'll need to take them. Since this is a pretty simple action you can do this is your sleep eventually.

Now for the recording part. There will be a small circle icon between the square and the triangle at the bottom of the palette that you will need to click. Now Photoshop will record everything you do until the end of the Action. If you have an error, simply stop the Action by pushing the square icon and go back to your last step taken.

For our action, the first thing we need to do is change the Mode of the image to RGB, since .gif files are saved in Index mode which don't take too kindly to colorization. So with the action recording, go to Image - Mode - RGB.

Next, we'll have to strip the image of it's current color to make adding our (my) own color easier to apply, so go to Image - Adjustment - Desaturate.

Now that we have a naked grey image, we need to add some color. Make sure your action is still recording and go to Image - Adjustments - Hue/Saturation. I have the settings for my teal color saved in a .ahu (Hue/Saturation) file already so all I have to do is click Load and select Teal.ahu, but since you don't have that you'll have to use the sliders. Use these settings for my color:

Finally, we save it for the web. Check that your action is still recording and go to File - Save For the Web and set your file type and optimization settings. I use the customary GIF settings. Choose the destination directory and save.

Now you can press the square button on the actions tab and stop recording. To put your newly created action into action, we'll need to do a Batch Process. A batch process will take all the images in a specified directory and apply whatever changes were recorded in the action.

Begin by going to File -Automate - Batch and make sure the name of the Action Set you just made is in the first dropdown list and the name of the Action is in the second. Set the third dropdown box (next to Source) to Folder and use the Choose button to find your duplicated or created folder of images. For destination, you can leave it set to it's default "None" to have the action applied and saved in the source folder, or save the "actionized" images into a separate folder. Click OK once you have everything set to your liking..

The hard part of the job is now done for you! All that is left is to relax and watch your pictures color themselves thanks to Actions and Batch Processing. - 20760
